Sin Lee Foods at Tiong Bahru!

Every now and then we hear about new cafes popping out all around Singapore and the most mainstream way of getting to know these cafes would be through instagram. It's like when you scroll through your feed and you see photos of same cafe/ food appearing again and again, you can't help it but want to try it yourself. Well, this is exactly what happened to me. In this case, 2 food items from Sin Lee Foods kept appearing. #1: Salted Egg Sweet Potato Fries (why is everything salted egg nowadays?!) #2: Fried Chicken with Waffle. Everyone is like raving how good these dishes are and they are a must try. So i decided to ask Angie and Fenny if they want to head down to Tiong Bahru to try out the food :)

We weren't exactly very hungry so we thought of ordering the "must order" items recommended by the hipsters on instagram (which are mostly the sides) and for drinks, i ordered a hot chocolate for myself. Was secretly happy that they made the effort to do coffee art even on hot chocolate. So instagram worthy. + points. Chio swan leh, LOLOLOL

Spam Fries ($7) Not one of the must order items but i just felt like having luncheon meat. HAHAHA

Salted Egg Sweet Potato Fries ($11) If you go look at the geo-tag of Sin Lee on instagram, 70% of the photos are probably photos of this dish. I was expecting it to be really really good but then i felt that the salted egg sauce was too thick and towards the bottom of the dish, there wasn't much sauce left. But overall still a pretty good dish, quite tasty.

Aburi Broccoli Salad ($10) This dish is basically smokey torched broccoli served with white balsamic, papadum and red sugar. They even have a disclaimer on their menu saying - "Trust us on this, you'll want more" Actually we ordered this dish because the truffle pops that i want to try was not available. People on instagram even claimed that even people who don't eat veggies/ broccoli will enjoy this dish. Honestly, this dish makes a pretty good appetizer. The broccoli are torched till light and fluffy so it's very "airy" when you bite into them, not like how you usually will find them - thick and chunky. I'm not sure about the combi of the other ingredients though. Just eat with a bit of everything i guess, LOLOL

Fried Chicken and Waffle ($21.90) Not exactly cheap but we still had to order it anyway, HAHA Probably the only place that serves chicken on waffles with coleslaw. The combination of fried chicken and waffles is pretty good, and i quite like the maple butter sauce (even though both fenny and angie hated it) The chicken had a slight plastic-y taste though. Definitely very insta-worthy dish but for the price of $21.90, i might re-consider ordering it again. If i'm ever back here.

That's all i have for this post. I probably tried every of the "must try" dishes of this cafe (except for the truffle pop that wasn't available that day. Sad) and that's another cafe in my list down! Checkout my whole list of cafes that i visited over at http://www.imandystorm.com/2014/02/cafe-hopping-in-singapore.html  I just realised i still got a couple of cafes blog post. Pardon me for the sudden food related blog post, i will try and finish up all my overdue posts such as my Phuket travelogue! I realised i have been neglecting my blog recently :(
